Reading vs. Watching Videos

Once widespread reading culture to obtain information is challenged today with the arrival of video-based media. This fact leads to our question,

which is better, reading or watching videos?

Here are a few different ways to look at the question at hand,

  1. How does the ability to comprehend material from a printed/ text media compare to an equivalent video?

  2. How do our bodies react to binge reading vs. binge-watching?

  3. How much do our brains get connected to language and information via reading vs. watching videos?

  4. How much pleasure does reading bring? How does each reading vs. watching videos affect reducing stress?

Of course, there is no one correct answer to our original question. However, many studies align with one particular conclusion. Most people believe videos help them comprehend more than reading despite science suggesting otherwise.

I would like to watch videos more. I’m a visual learner so I learn faster, memorize photos more than text. However, reading has its own benefits though. I also learn a lot via reading but not as fast.

That's an important point. You're right! Sometimes, videos do better in teaching us.
